Five Signs of Clogged Fuel Injectors

You don’t have a lot of visibility to your car’s fuel injectors, since they’re deep in the engine itself. But what you are likely to notice are symptoms of problems with the fuel injectors. Davis & Clark Auto Repair recommends watching out for these signs of trouble.

The Engine Is Running Rough

A rough idle happens when your car’s engine is misfiring and has inconsistent amounts of fuel reaching the engine. You’re most likely to notice this when the car is sitting still or idling. It might also be harder than usual to start the car, which can put excess wear on the starter.

You’re Feeling Vibrations When You Accelerate

Vibrations in your car’s handling can be caused by a variety of different things, but if you’re feeling them when you press the gas pedal, it’s possible that the culprit is your car’s fuel injectors. Clogged or dirty fuel injectors aren’t getting consistent amounts of fuel into the engine, which can cause hesitation or vibrations.

Or the Engine Is Sluggish

Your car’s engine needs fuel in order to run. If you’re feeling like there just isn’t any power when you hit the gas, it could be because not enough fuel is making it to the engine or the fuel is getting there late. That can cause the engine performance to be off by quite a bit.

Your Gas Mileage Is Bad

Gas mileage is all about how well or how poorly your car’s engine is using the gas from your car’s tank. When the engine is working too hard or fuel levels are inconsistent, then the engine isn’t going to run efficiently at all. You’ll end up buying gas more often and if you’re tracking your fuel mileage, you’ll see those numbers getting worse instead of better.

The Check Engine Light Is On

Finally, you may see the check engine light as a result of failing or clogged fuel injectors. If you do see the light, that’s your car’s ECM warning you that the problem is getting bad enough that engine damage either is occurring or can occur. It’s imperative to get the problem diagnosed as soon as possible.
